Oregon vs USC Free Pick

November 03, 2012

Southern California is the site for a key Pac-12 matchup between the visiting Oregon Ducks and the University of Southern California Trojans. Both teams had high expectations entering the season for both the Pac-12 and the national title. Those high expectations remain for the Oregon Ducks but are gone for USC.

Oregon comes into the game ranked no. 2 in the country with a record of 8-0 SU. The Ducks however are just 4-4 ATS. USC is ranked no. 18 in the country with a record of 6-2 SU. They are a dismal 2-6 ATS this season.

For Oregon, this game has big BCS National Championship implications. The Ducks are ranked no. 4 in the BCS polls and need all the wins they can get to move up into the no 1 or 2 spot to qualify for the championship. Oregon is coming off a 56-point win last week against the Colorado Buffaloes. The Ducks destroyed the Buffaloes 70-14.

USC has only its pride to play for, as their national title hopes were lost when they lost last week to the Arizona Wildcats. USC allowed the Wildcats to defeat them 39-36 in overtime in a game that USC was heavily favored to win.

The Ducks have the nation’s third best rushing offense averaging more than 331 yard each game. Quarterback Marcus Mariotta has tossed 18 touchdown passes thus far on the season.

USC is led by Matt Barkley their senior quarterback. He has passed for 2,200 yards this season and has 25 touchdowns through the air. The USC aerial attack could give the Ducks problems since Oregon has not faced such a talented quarterback or receiver corps.

Oregon scores 53 points per game on average and outscores it opponents by an average of 34 points.

The favorite is 6-2 ATS in this matchup over the past eight head-to-head contests. Oregon is 5-1 ATS in their past six road games.

The line at this time has the Ducks favored by 8. The over under is at 70. I like Oregon even though they are giving up 8 points. The total will make winners of those smart money bettors taking the OVER.
