Alabama vs LSU Free Pick

November 03, 2012

Can it get any better than this? Two of the best teams in college football meet in primetime tonight in Bayou country. That is right, tonight the Alabama Crimson Tide visits the LSU Tigers for an SEC conference matchup.   Alabama is ranked no. 1 in the nation with a record of 8-0 straight up and 5-3 against the spread. The Tigers are ranked no. 6 in the nation and have a record of 7-1 loss straight up and 3-5 against the spread.

Alabama has walked all over its eight opponents this season and is on track to win its second consecutive national title for the first time since the BCS era started. Last season the two teams met during the regular season in a similar situation.

LSU was ranked no. 1 and Alabama no. 2. LSU defeated Alabama in that matchup 9-6 in overtime. Nevertheless, the Crimson Tide eventually made it to the BCS championship to play a rematch against LSU. The Tide won that game 21-0 to win the National Championship.

LSU has a record of 36-1 in games played on Saturday night at home. Alabama owns the nation’s best defense allowing only 203 yards each game. The Tide is first against the run allowing just 57 yards each game and versus the pass allowing just 145 yards each game. Alabama’s defense has allowed an average of just over 8 points in each game thus far.

LSU’s defense is no slouch. The Tigers are ranked third over in the country on defense allowing only 243 yards each game. They have the nation’s eighth best rushing defense and fourth best passing defense.

Offensively both teams love to run the ball and throw just when they have to. This game is virtually too close to call since the better overall team is Alabama, but the game is on LSU turf.

The current line has Alabama as a road favorite by 8 ½ points, with the point total at 40. The over under should be the easier choice in this matchup as this game will be a defensive struggle. Take the under to cash out in this game. If you need to pick a winner, take LSU plus the 8 points. We are anticipating a possible LSU upset here so the moneyline at +300 is an option as well.
