Grizzlies vs Clippers Free Pick

Tinseltown welcomes back the NBA tonight as the Los Angeles Clippers host the Memphis Grizzlies in the opening game of the season for both teams. Last season these two franchises met in the playoffs after many seasons where both never qualified for the postseason. Just less than six months ago, the Clippers eliminated the Grizzlies from the playoffs in the first round.

Last season the Clippers had a record of 40-26 in the lockout shortened season. They qualified for postseason play for only the first time since the 2005-2006 season. They reached that plateau thanks to the acquisition of Chris Paul the All Star point guard during the offseason. He teamed with Blake Griffin, the Clippers power forward to guide the team to the postseason.

Griffin has signed a new extension to remain in LA for five more years and has fully recovered from offseason surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear. If they can qualify for the postseason, it will be the first time they have made back-to-back appearances in the playoff in 20 seasons.

The Grizzlies ended their regular season last year with a record of 41-25. They won their last six consecutive regular season games to make the playoffs and play against the Clippers. In that series, the Grizzlies fell behind 3-1, before winning two straight games to force the deciding game seven.

Memphis lost that game and the team as a whole feels they have unfinished business to take care of this year. Marc Gasol, Mike Conley and Rudy Gay their leading scorer lead the Grizzlies. Memphis has not done well in season openers as they are 0 for 11 in their past 11.

Both teams added to their roster in the offseason. The Clippers added Lamar Odom, Jamal Crawford and Grant Hill. The Grizzlies brought in Wayne Ellington.

The current line has the Clippers favored at home by 3 ½ points and the point total is 187 ½ for the over under. Smart money takes the Clippers less the spread to win, with the total making winners out of those who take the OVER.
