49ers vs Cardinals Free Pick

October 29, 2012

The NFL moves its primetime show to Glendale, Arizona when the Arizona Cardinals host the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. The 49ers have not played very well the last two week but their record is 5-2 straight up and 4-3 against the spread.

Arizona started their season on fire and won their first 4 games coming out of the gate however, they have since come back to earth and lost 3 consecutive games. Arizona is 4-3 straight up as well as 3-3-1 against the spread.

San Francisco lost to the New York Giants 26-3 two week ago and looked nothing like the defensive team they were last season. Last week, the 49ers offense failed to appear on the scene, but their famed defense stepped up and stopped the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco was able to prevail 13- 6.

The 49ers have the best defense in the league, but if Alex Smith, their quarterback, is not protecting the ball then the defense cannot help the 49ers to win. Smith has had four passes intercepted in the past two games.

Arizona lost to Minnesota last week 21-14 after turning the ball over twice, getting sacked on 7 occasions and committing nine penalties in the game.

Both defenses have played stellar football this season, but both have allowed the run more often this year than in the past. Last season, the Cardinals defeated the 49ers at home late in the season 21 to 19. Arizona was behind by 12 points and scored two late touchdowns to win and snap a five game consecutive losing streak against San Francisco.

San Francisco has 6 wins and 1 loss against the spread in the last seven head to head matchups with Arizona. Both team have good defenses and the under has cashed out 10 times out of the 14 combined games thus far for the two teams. However, the over has cashed out in 6 of the past 8 games the two teams have met head to head.

Originally, the lines opened with the 49ers as a favorite by 6 points, but that has since jumped to 7 points. Currently the total is at 38 ½. Smart money takes the Cardinals and the points, with the total cashing out to those bettors taking the under.
