Buccaneers vs Vikings Free Pick

The NFL season enters its halfway point this week with a number of great matchups on the schedule. The week is kicked off with the Minnesota Vikings hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football. The Vikings have played well the first half of the season and have a record of 5 wins and 2 losses straight up and 3 wins, 3 losses and 1 push against the spread. Tampa Bay on the other hand has not fared as well. The Buccaneers have 2 wins and 4 losses straight up and 4 wins and 2 losses against the spread.

These two teams were in the same division until the NFL realigned the division, but the rivalry remains and Tampa will try to get its first win on the road this season against the league’s surprise team thus far in 2012. The Bucs lost last week 35-28 against New Orleans and ended their October home schedule with 1 win and 2 losses.

Minnesota won last week against Arizona 21-12, but produced very little offense, only 252 yards in all. Christian Ponder the Vikings quarterback only completed 47% of his passes and had two interceptions. He has steadily declined since opening the season playing much better. If the Vikings want to win against the Bucs they will need Ponder to play better since Tampa Bay is third in the league against the run.

Tampa Bay’s offence will depend upon quarterback Josh Freeman’s ability to complete passes and not throw interceptions. He has been a Jekyll and Hyde this season and inconsistency is the only thing he has maintained throughout the season.

Tampa was victorious in their matchup with Minnesota last season 24-20 on the road. Tampa has 5 wins and 0 losses straight up and against the spread versus Minnesota in their last five head-to-head matchups. Over the last 12 head-to-head matchups, the home team has 9 wins, 2 losses and 1 push against the spread.

The current line has Minnesota favored at home by 6 ½ points with the point total at 42 ½. I like the Vikings less the points, with the total cashing out to those taking the over.
