Tigers vs Giants Free Pick

October 24, 2012

It has arrived. Yes, the fall classic is here the World Series starts tonight. The San Francisco Giants from the National League host the Detroit Tigers from the American League, in Game 1 tonight at AT&T Park on the Bay.

The Tigers reached the World Series after they swept the New York Yankees in four games to win the AL Pennant. The Giants played seven games and needed a big comeback to beat the St. Louis Cardinals to win the NL Pennant for the right to play in tonight’s first game.

Detroit will send their ace, Justin Verlander, to the mound to face the Giants tonight. Verlander has had a terrific post season thus far. He is 3-0 in the post season and has an earned run average below 1.00. The Tigers have won all seven of his last seven outings. The current Cy Young and MVP award winner has 16 wins and 4 losses in interleague games in the last 20 games he has started against opponents from the National League. That record includes nine consecutive victories leading up to tonight’s matchup

He will face veteran Barry Zito who will take the mound for the Giants. The Giants have been victorious in every one of Zito’s past 13 starts this season. The Tigers could face problems with Zito. During the regular season, the Tigers had only 29 wins and 25 losses against lefty starting pitchers. In road games, the Tigers had 9 wins and 16 losses against left-handed starters.

Detroit has 5 wins and 0 losses straight up in their last five games. The Tigers have 7 wins in their past 10 games playing on the road. Detroit has just 2 wins and 4 losses in their past 6 games playing in at AT&T Park.

The Giants are 7-3 in the last ten games and has a record of 12 wins and 5 losses in their past 17 outings played at home.

The line for tonight’s opener has Detroit favored on the road with the total set at 6 ½. Smart money takes the Tigers behind the strong pitching of Verlander to be victorious, with the total making winners of those taking the OVER.
