Take A&M getting 4, against Les Miles and the LSU Tigers

October 20, 2012

To be frank, and this is something most bettors dread to hear, this match up between the LSU Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies could very well go either way.  In what should be an epic SEC battle of strength vs. strength, the Aggies explosive offense, led by freshman phenom Johnny Manziel, should be facing their toughest test of the season so far with LSU’s athletic, yet hard hitting defensive squad.  However, while the game is definitely a big question mark, at the very least, it should be extremely close, logically making A&M +4 a wise bet. But we are going on the growing strength of LSU here to fly in the face of logic.

The key here will how well LSU’s defense can contain Manziel, both in the passing and running game.  Fresh off of a combined 6 TD performance against La. Tech last week, the dual threat freshman signal caller has been making a strong case as one of the game’s elite first year players.  But, he hasn’t faced a defense quite as fast, or strong, as the Tigers. He’s also been prone to making some big mistakes and has relied more on his mobility than his arm at times this year.  If LSU’s 2nd ranked D can hit him early and often, we could very well see a season-worst performance from the young star, and a “return to earth” for an Aggies offense that has put up 45+ points in four of their six games so far this year.

Despite their stellar defense, LSU has had some serious issues on the offensive side of the football, which makes the Aggies +4 even more attractive.  With QB Zach Mettenberger’s underwhelming body of work so far this year, and some injuries on the O-line, they could very well have some difficulty scoring some points – even against the ever-so-slightly above average A&M D.

However, even though they didn’t have much to show for it last week on the scoreboard, the Tigers managed to scrounge up 400 yards against a very solid South Carolina Gamecocks defense.  If they can leverage that yardage into a few scores, they could very well pull this one out against the high scoring Aggies, but they have too many question marks on the line and from under center to think that they’ll win in a big way.

It’s always tough to bet against a defense as solid as the Tigers, but when their offensive production has been as stagnant as it has, combined with the fact that they’ll be facing a prolific and explosive offense – this has the makings of a down to the wire contest.  But we see the Tigers of LSU being  just a little too tough for the Aggies and they will pull away in the second half. To make sure we suggest taking the moneyline. Free Pick: LSU -170. Bet this pick now at Bovada Sportsbook. Or try sportsbook Bet Revolution.
