South Carolina vs Florida Free Pick

October 20, 2012

College Football is well into its conference schedule and this weekend has a host of great games. However, the best game on the docket features the South Carolina Gamecocks at the Florida Gators in a key Southeastern Conference matchup.

Florida has moved up to No. 2 in the nation behind just the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Gators’ ranking is not without controversy as they are behind Oregon in two polls but ahead in the recently released BCS standing.

Thus far in the season, the Gators are 6-0 straight up and have won all five of their SEC conference games. They could conceivably lose this game and still make it to the SEC title game. However, that is not the same for South Carolina. The Gamecocks come into this game with a record of 6-1 loss, and 4-1 in the SEC.

The Gamecocks are ranked No. 7 in the standings for the BCS championship after losing to LSU last week in a thriller 23-21. Prior to that, the Gamecocks had been in the top 5. Prior to the loss, South Carolina had won 10 straight games, a school record. The Gamecocks rushing defense is suspect as they gave up 258 rushing yards to LSU and were outgained on the day 406 to 211.

Florida won last week by the score of 31-17 against Vanderbilt behind a great game from their signal caller Jeff Driskel at quarterback. The QB had 177 yards on the ground and three TDs, including one for 70 yards. However, the Florida offense could only convert on 2 of its 11 third down conversions and none in the second half. The Gators are ranked a sad no. 118 in passing offense in the nation.

Florida 12-1 at home head to head against South Carolina. Nonetheless, the Gamecocks have won two consecutive against the Gators. Last season the Gamecocks won 17-12 in South Carolina.

The line has Florida favored at home by 3 points with the over under total at 41 ½. Florida is ranked higher and at home but I like South Carolina and the points, with the total cashing out to those who take the under.
