Seahawks vs 49ers Free Pick

October 18, 2012

The NFL heads west tonight as the Seattle Seahawks visit the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park. The two teams have identical records thus far in the season. Both teams are 4-2 straight up and against the spread. This is an important NFC West showdown between the two top teams in the division, with the winner taking sole possession of first place.

The Seahawks won a thriller over the New England Patriots last week 24-23 at home as the underdog. The Seahawks were able scored 14 points will less than half the fourth quarter remaining to overtake the Patriots. Russell Wilson the Seattle rookie quarterback threw two touchdowns late in the game to Sidney Rice and Braylon Edwards for the victory. Seattle took the lead with only 1:18 left on the clock.

San Francisco is coming off a devastating loss to the New York Giants. Last weekend the Giants, as underdogs on the road, throttled the 49ers 26-3. San Francisco had better stats on paper than the Seahawks. The 49ers are averaging close to 90 more yards of total offense per game and are allowing 20 fewer yards on defense each game.

The 49ers may have lost last week to the Giants, but they still have one of the best teams in the NFL. Look for the 49ers to try to establish the running game. Remember, the last time San Francisco lost, they turned around and won the following week by 32 points over the New York Jets. Seattle’s defense must rebound from last week. They gave up 475 yards to the Patriots and none of their first five opponents accumulated over 300.

The 49ers are 9-2 losses straight up and against the spread over their past 11 games at home. Both games they lost were to the Giants. The Seahawks have lost 14 of their past 22 games on the road against the spread.

The current line has the 49ers as the favorite at home by 7 points with the total sitting at 38. The 49ers are a much better team, and will respond with an excellent game coming off their loss to the Giants. Smart money takes San Francisco less the points with the total cashing out to the UNDER.
