Stanford vs Notre Dame Free Pick

October 13, 2012

The NCAA football season is half over and the cream is starting to rise to the top. Two strong teams, both ranked in the top 20 in the country meet in a showdown in South Bend. The Stanford Cardinal visit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a rivalry that has been played for decades.

The Cardinal are ranked no. 17 in the country and have a record of 4-1 SU and 2-3 ATS. The only blemish on the Stanford record is a loss to Pac-12 rival Washington. Last week Stanford needed to go to overtime to squeak by Arizona 54-48.

Notre Dame is ranked no. 7 in the nation is undefeated this season at 5-0 SU. The Fighting Irish are 4-1 ATS. The Irish have not been ranked as high as they are now for several years. Last week Notre Dame defeated the Miami Hurricanes 41-3. The game was close until the Fighting Irish scored four unanswered touchdowns to put the game away.

In Stanford’s win against Arizona, quarterback Josh Nunes threw for over 360 yards and two touchdowns. Nunes also ran for three touchdowns during the game. The Cardinal were behind by 14 points during the fourth quarter, but Nunes was able to rally them back to tie the game and take it into overtime where they were then victorious.

Overall, the Irish have the nation’s second rated defense against scoring. The Irish defense only allows 7.8 points a game. Stanford’s strength on defense is against the run and they are rated seventh in the country against the rush only allowing 77 yards each game.

Stanford has won three consecutive head-to-head matchups versus Notre Dame, but prior to that, the Fighting Irish had won seven consecutive against Stanford.

Odds makers currently have Notre Dame as the favorite at home by 7 points with the point total for over under at 43. Take the points and Stanford to cover. The total will pay out to those who take the UNDER.
