Navy vs Central Michigan Free Pick

October 12, 2012

Friday night means more NCAA football and tonight the Central Michigan Chippewas host the Navy Midshipmen. Central Michigan comes into the game on a two-game losing streak having given up 105 points in its last two games. Last week the Chippewas lost 50-35 to Mid-American Conference rival Toledo. The loss dropped the Chippewas season record to 2-3 SU and a dismal 1-4 ATS.

Navy on the other hand is coming off one of their best wins in years. Last week the Midshipmen defeated the Air Force Academy 28-21 in an overtime thriller. With the win, the Midshipmen improved their season record to 2-3 SU/ATS and are in the running for the Commander in Chief Trophy.

The powerful offensive rushing attack of Navy, ranked 16th in the nation, is led by quarterback Trey Miller. However, Miller was injured in the win over Air Force with a twisted ankle and is questionable for tonight’s game. That could affect the option offense the Midshipmen use.

If Central Michigan hopes to win, they must stop the rushing attack of the Midshipmen. That will not be an easy undertaking as the Chippewas are ranked 117th in rushing defense giving up over 233 yards each game and are ranked dead last at 120th in the nation in scoring defense. Central Michigan is allowing over 40 points per game. The Chippewas will look to quarterback Ryan Radcliff to put up points on the scoreboard. Radcliff has thrown for 9 touchdowns this season, but has had 6 passed picked off.

Against teams from the MAC, Navy is 1-7 ATS in eight games, while the Midshipmen are 0-5 ATS in Friday night games. Central Michigan is also 0-5 ATS over their past five games at home.

The Navy Midshipmen are favored by 2 points playing on the road, and the over under point total is currently at 60. Navy looks to be too strong on offense for the Central Michigan defense to stop. Smart money takes Navy less the points, with the total making winners of those who take the OVER.
