Orioles vs Yankees Free Pick

October 10, 2012

October brings shorter days, longer nights and playoff baseball. Tonight the New York Yankees play host to the Baltimore Orioles. The teams are tied 1-1 in their best of 5 series, with the winner of the series moving on to play in the American League Championship, and the loser going home for a long cold winter. The Yankees are familiar with controversy and it is not surprising they are amidst some of it now.

Fans from New York are calling on manager Joe Girardi to move veteran third baseman Alex Rodriguez for third in the batting order to sixth, seventh or even lower. Rodriguez has only 1 hit in his 9 official at bats in the first two games of the series. He has struck out five times in those nine at bats and struck out to end game two on Monday night.

Girardi has not announced his lineup for tonight’s game, but it is almost certain Rodriguez will be penciled in at third base and batting third. On the mound tonight for the Yankees will be Hiroki Kuroda. The right hander was 16-11 in the regular season for the Yankees and was their ace down the stretch in August and September.

Facing Kuroda for the Baltimore Orioles will be rookie Miguel Gonzalez. The right hander was 9-4 during the regular season. He started two games against the Yankees this season. In those two games, Gonzalez pitched 13 2/3 innings and had 17 strikeouts.

The Yankees are 10-1 SU over their past 11 games at home and overall are 5-1 SU over their past six games. Baltimore overall has a record of 7-3 SU in their past 10 games. The Orioles have played well on the road and are 8-3 SU over their past 11 games away from Camden Yards.

The odds makers have the line at -165 for the Yankees and +145 for the Orioles, with the run total resting at 8.5. Smart money bettors are taking New York to win with the over under total cashing out to those taking the UNDER.
