Cardinals vs Rams Free Pick

The St. Louis Rams play host to the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night at the Edward Jones Dome. Prior to the beginning of the season, few fans or sports bettors would have flagged this game as a good matchup, but both teams have played well thus far in the early going of the 2012 season.

Arizona is undefeated at 4-0 following their overtime win against Miami last weekend. Writers and odds makers are still not sure if the Cardinals are for real, but they clearly are much improved. Not since 1974, has the franchise started so well. In four games, the Cardinals defense has allowed just four touchdowns. Offensively Kevin Kolb at quarterback is playing efficiently and not turning over the ball too often. His has seven touchdown and only two interceptions.

St. Louis has a record of 2-2. Last week they defeated a tough Seattle Seahawks team 19-13 behind four field goals and a fake field goal for a touchdown. With two wins under new coach Jeff Fisher, the team has matched their total of wins from a season ago. The team has not been exceptional in any area, but have played consistent. Danny Amendola has 31 receptions for 350 yards thus far for the Rams along with two TDs.

This game will be tough to call because both clubs are much different from last year. Nevertheless, the Rams would be hurt much worse with a loss. They would drop to 2-3 with the Cardinals at 5-0 in the division and the 49ers already 3-1. The game is much more important for the Rams to win. Air travel could hurt Arizona. Last Sunday they flew back to Arizona from Miami and then on Wednesday back to St. Louis, all within 96 hours.

The line opened with the Cardinals at -1.5, but at most books it is now -1. The over under total is sitting at 39. Take the Rams plus the points to give the Cardinal their first defeat of the season. I also like the UNDER.
