Tigers vs Royals Free Pick

October 03, 2012

All but one game has been played in the 2012 major league baseball schedule. Tonight, the regular season ends and 10 teams will proceed to the postseason. In Kansas City, the Detroit Tigers will end their regular season versus the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers have stamped their postseason ticket and will start on Saturday, while Kansas City will ponder another long winter.

The Tigers also have an intriguing event taking place in tonight’s game, as Miguel Cabrera the team’s offensive leader is attempting to win the Triple Crown. The Triple Crown has not been accomplished by any player in the majors for 45 years. The last player to do so was Carl Yastrzemski who did it in 1967 when he led the Boston Red Sox to the World Series where they eventually fell to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cabrera is leading the American League in the three categories necessary to win the TC – batting average, home runs and RBIs. In Tuesday’s loss to the Royals, Cabrera had two hits and knocked in two runs. His lead in batting average and runs batted in is nearly insurmountable, but he only has a lead of one home run.

The Tigers will go with Luis Marte on the mound tonight. Marte has a record of 0-0 with a 3.32 ERA. He has appeared in 12 games for the Tigers this season, all of them in relief. Kansas City will counter Marte with Luis Mendoza. Mendoza is 8-9 this season with an ERA of 4.36. He has pitched well over his past three starts and his ERA during that stretch has been just 2.36. However, last week he suffered a loss at the hands of the Tigers 5-4. Cabrera has 4 hits in 11 at bats versus Mendoza.

The line on the game currently has Detroit as the favorite at -110 with Kansas City resting at +100. The total is at 8.5. Smart money will take the Tigers to win with the total paying dividends to those taking the UNDER.
