Rangers vs Athletics Free Pick

October 02, 2012

Major League baseball is in its last week of the regular season with just two days left before only 10 teams move on to the postseason. Tonight in Oakland, California two teams battling for first place in the American League West meet when the Texas Rangers visit the Oakland Athletics. Both teams have already qualified for the playoffs, but only a game separates the two and the AL West crown is still up for grabs.

The A’s are also battling the Baltimore Orioles for the top spot in the wildcard seedings if they cannot topple the Rangers for the division title. Texas had not played well of late and has only won 4 of their last 11 games. Oakland on the other hand has won four straight games and 7 of their last 10 overall.

Tonight the Rangers will try to clinch the AL West title with Matt Harrison on the mound. Harrison has a season long record of 18-10 and an ERA of 3.26. Last week Harrison defeated Oakland in Texas by pitching six innings and allowing only four runs. He has pitched three times against Oakland this season and has a record of 2-0 with one no decision. Over his entire career, Harrison is 6-1 against the A’s in nine appearances.

Oakland will send Travis Blackley to the mound to face the Rangers. Blackley thus far in the season is 5-4 with a 4.00 ERA. He had a disastrous outing in his last start as he gave up five runs on five hits and one wild pitch and did not even pitch beyond the first inning.

The line for this game has not been made yet, but smart money will be behind the Rangers to win and take home their third straight AL West division crown.
