Washington vs Tampa Bay Free Pick

September 30, 2012

Two teams that have been competitive this season meet today in Tampa, Florida when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Washington Redskins. Washington has started the season 1-2 SU as well as ATS, while the Buccaneers are 1-2 SU but 3-0 ATS. Both teams lost last week but the Redskins had another fine performance from their rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III.

The defense however, has been very suspect for the Redskins, especially the secondary. The pass defense has been very poor, given up yardage in large chunks and can easily be beaten over the top. Tampa Bay however, does not have that strong of an attack through the air as it ranks 30th in the league in yards passing.

Last weekend Alfred Morris the Redskins running back combined with RG3 for 163 yards rushing. However, running might come harder against the Bucs as they have the top ranked defense in the league against the run. Washington could however, change that stat, as the Bucs’ defense has not faced an opponent with a strong running game.

Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman struggled against Dallas last week in Tampa’s 16-10 loss. However, he should get a reprieve in this game due to the poor Tampa Bay pass defense.

Washington has a record of 1-5 ATS over their past five games. In those same five games, the OVER has cashed out on three occasions. Tampa has not been a team to bet on when they play at home. The Bucs are 7-21 ATS in the past 28 games in Tampa.

Washington’s offense had been hot and cold in its first three games, as the players get used to RG3 and he gets used to the NFL. Tampa has played well defensively against the run, but poorly against the pass, which is why they are 1-2 SU.

The line currently has Tampa Bay favored by 2, with the total resting at 47 ½. Smart money is behind Washington plus the points, with the OVER cashing out.
