Oregon at Washington State Free Pick

September 28, 2012

The Oregon Ducks  are known for their high-powered offense, but it was the defense that was most impressive in last week’s 49-0 shutout of Rich Rodriguez’s Arizona Wildcats. Now the Ducks face another offensive guru in and new Pac-12 head coach in Mike Leach as his Cougars look to pull a stunner of the nation’s No. 2 team. Oregon is a 29-point favorite at for the game in Seattle.

Wazzu (2-2, 0-1) is looking for its first win of the season over a BCS conference foe. Last week the Cougars lost their Pac-12 opener 35-34 to Colorado. Jordan Webb scored on a 4-yard run in the final seconds, the last of three Colorado touchdowns in the final 7 minutes.

Washington State was coming off narrow wins over Eastern Washington and UNLV, and has so far shown only flashes of Leach’s high-flying “Air Raid” offense. Against the Buffs, Connor Halliday threw for 401 yards and four touchdown passes for Washington State, which was looking for its first three-game winning streak since 2006.

Oregon jumped over LSU to No. 2 in the polls this week after that 49-0 victory over Arizona. Marcus Mariota threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard scoring pass to freshman Bralon Addison. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and Tory Hill each returned interceptions for scores. Oregon’s D thwarted the Wildcats in the red zone six times and forced four Arizona turnovers. It was the Ducks’ first shutout in conference play since a 35-0 victory over Stanford on Oct. 25, 2003. Arizona had been averaging over 46 points and 600 yards per game over its first three contests of the season. trends: Ducks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. Ducks are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game. Ducks are 7-3-2 ATS in their last 12 conference games. Cougars are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. loss. Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Washington State. Over is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings. Home team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings.

This is a tough nut to crack to be honest. We love betting Oregon every week this year because of their potency. But Washington State at home getting 30 points is very tempting.  Still, we cannot go against what we feel is the most powerful offense and one of the best defenses in the country. Take Oregon anyway you can get them at any number up to 33
