Hawaii vs BYU Free Pick

September 28, 2012

The NCAA football season is already 25% over and many teams are feeling the pressure of trying to win to reach a post season bowl game. Tonight the Brigham Young Cougars will play in front of a home crowd in Provo, Utah against the Hawaii Warriors. BYU thus far in the season is 2-2 SU as well as ATS. The Warriors have played one less game but are 1-2 SU and have an ATS record of 1-1-1.

BYU has won six of the past seven head-to-head games SU versus Hawaii. In those same seven games, the Cougars are 3-3-1 ATS versus Hawaii. The total has cashed out to the OVER 2 times and to the UNDER 1 time in the last three games, the two teams have played head to head. In their past 11 games played, Hawaii is 2-8-1 ATS, while in their past eight games overall, the Warriors are a dismal 2-6 SU. Away from Hawaii, things do not get any better. Hawaii on the road is 2-5 SU in their last seven games and 2-4-1 ATS.

BYU has a 5-0 SU record over their past five games at home and 11-3 SU in their past 14 games overall. BYU is very strong on natural grass as they are 9-1 SU in their past 10 games on that surface.

The Cougars have an excellent defense as they held Boise State to just 7 points even though they lost 7-6. The Cougars have not given up 300 or more yards to any of their last 10 opponents and this season are giving up just an average of 245 yards a game. Offensively the Cougars are scoring over 25 points a game, while the Hawaii defense is allowing its opponents to score 40 points each game on average.

The current line by odds makers has BYU favored by 27 ½ points with the point total resting at 49 ½ points. Smart money bettors are taking Hawaii plus the points to cover because BYU’s one weakness is on offense at quarterback. The total will cash out to those bettors taking the OVER.
