Nebraska vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Opener

September 26, 2012

A handful of close calls and an unexpected loss to Oregon State have cost the Wisconsin Badgers their spot in the Top 25, but this weekend they’ll stumble upon a chance for redemption. Lined up against Big Ten foe Nebraska, Danny O’Brien and company will look to breath new life into their faltering college football odds.

After starting the season ranked as high as 12th in the country, Wisconsin has slid considerably. Now, a Week 4 injury to star running back Montee Ball has further compounded the misery.

Despite it all, the Saturday tilt at Memorial Stadium will mark Wisconsin’s first contest against an even remotely reputable contender this season. A win might far from guarantee their climb up the BCS futures, but it would put the struggling program back on the right track.

For Nebraska, the early conference clash ushers in another season of Big Ten play. The Huskers haven’t exactly dominated the NCAA football odds themselves, but have at least made the most of the majority of their September opportunities.

SBA Take: Right now the spread is Nebraska -12. This seems a bit high of a number considering Nebraska is ranked 20 and Wisconsin is no. 23.  But this is what home field advantage can do to a point spread at it’s max.  There is a bit of that revenge factor for people who believe in such a thing. Wisconsin smashed Nebraska at home last year. But of course that was with now NFL instant legend Russel Wilson.  Regardless of the factors in the game the spread seems to be just a little high and we can see Nebraska covering seven points but 12 seems a bit high. Take Wisconsin.
