Blue Jays vs Orioles Free Pick

September 26, 2012

Just seven games remain in the regular season for the Baltimore Orioles, but for them it must seem like an eternity. Tonight the Orioles face the Toronto Blue Jays at home in an attempt to move closer to first place in the American League East.

The Orioles trail the New York Yankees by 1 ½ games after tying the Bronx Bombers last week at the top of the division. However, the Orioles then lost three of four games to drop back. Nevertheless, the Orioles have won 7 of their last 10 games and are leading the races for the two wildcard spots in the AL.

Currently the Orioles hold a ½ game lead over the Oakland Athletics for the top wildcard spot and 2 ½ games over the Los Angeles Angels. The Orioles lost Tuesday night to the Blue Jays 4-0 and have had a tough time at the plate of late. Baltimore has not lost three consecutive games for two months and will be looking to keep that streak intact tonight.

Baltimore will send rookie pitcher Miguel Gonzalez up against Toronto tonight. Gonzalez has pitched much of the season in relief and his overall record is 7-4 with a 3.52 ERA. Over his last three starts, the rookie right hander is 2-0 with an outstanding ERA of just 2.25. He last pitched on Friday against Boston and won 4-2 giving up just two runs over 6 1/3 innings.

The Blue Jays will counter Gonzalez with Carlos Villanueva. The southpaw is 7-6 thus far in the season and has a season long 3.88 ERA. He had a very poor start his last time on the mound. He allowed 7 runs in a 12-1 loss. In that start, he did not make it out of the third inning and it was the first start all season he was not able to complete at least five innings in a game. Villanueva is 0-2 this season versus Baltimore.

Baltimore is currently favored -180 with Toronto as the underdog at +160. The total for over under is now at 8.5. Smart money takes the Orioles to win at home with the run total making winners of those bettors taking the OVER.
