Rangers vs Angels Free Pick

The American League has a number of races for playoff berths. All three divisions have first place teams 3 or fewer games in front of second place challengers. The AL West features in tonight’s matchup as the Texas Rangers travel west to take on the Los Angeles Angels in the second game of a very important series.

Texas leads the AL West by 3 games over the Oakland Athletics and 6 ½ over the Angels. The Angels are more realistically fighting for one of the two wildcard berths in the AL. Currently the Angels trial the A’s by 3 ½ games for the first wildcard and the Baltimore Orioles by 3 games for the second wildcard berth.

The Angels have enjoyed a very good last 20 games. Los Angeles is 15-5 over that stretch. This season the Rangers and Angels have played head to head 14 times and Los Angeles leads with 8 wins.

The Angels will start C.J. Wilson tonight against the Rangers. The lefty is 12-9 thus far in the season and has a 3.73 ERA. He helped the Rangers will the last two American League Championships but left during the most recent offseason to sign with the Angels. In his career, Wilson has not won any of his five starts versus Texas.

The Rangers will counter Wilson with Derek Holland. The Rangers southpaw is 10-6 this year and has a season ERA of 4.50. However, over his last five appearances Holland is 3-0. Nevertheless, his record against the Angels this season is 0-2.

Texas may play without Josh Hamilton tonight. Hamilton leads the majors with 42 home runs, but was taken out of last night’s 11-3 loss to the Angels due to a sinus infection.

The line at this time has Los Angeles at -119, with the Rangers sitting at +109. The total for runs is resting at 8. Smart money is behind the Angels three to one in this game, with the total to end OVER favored by three of every four bettors.
