Washington at St. Louis Free NFL Pick

The St. Louis Rams could have taken Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft. Instead, they decided to stick with 2010 No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford and got a fortune in draft picks from the Redskins. And Washington couldn’t be happier after Griffin III had a record-setting debut in a shocking win at New Orleans.

Griffin finished 19 of 26 for 320 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and a passer rating of 139.9 (NFL-high in Week 1). He also scrambled for 42 yards. Only three players in NFL history have thrown for more yards in an NFL debut than the Redskins’ Robert Griffin III did. He was the first player in league history to amass 300-plus yards passing, two or more passing touchdowns and no interceptions in an NFL debut. Griffin III completed 8 of 9 pass attempts for 188 yards two touchdowns when the Saints sent five or more pass rushers. Griffin was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week, the first rookie QB to do so in his debut game (in any conference).

The Rams let a potential upset at Detroit slip out of their fingers in a 27-23 loss as Lions QB Matthew Stafford threw the winning 5-yard TD pass with 10 seconds left. Bradford was 17 of 25 for 198 yards with a TD, a 23-yard pass to Brandon Gibson early in the fourth quarter that put the Rams up 20-13. St. Louis’ reshaped offensive line lost two starters during the game. Offensive tackle Rodger Saffold was carted off the field with a neck injury in the fourth quarter and center Scott Wells had a foot injury. Saffold will miss at least this week, while Wells is done for the year.

The Rams have to be extremely concerned after averaging just 2.9 yards per carry in Week 1 and their already banged-up offensive line losing those two players. St. Louis had a dismal ground attack in Week 1 and needs to get Stephen Jackson on track versus a stingy Redskins defense. Washington gave up only 32 yards on the ground in Week 1, but part of that was the New Orleans Saints falling behind. The Rams need to force feed their featured back the ball between the tackles.

These two teams met last year in St. Louis, with the Skins winning 17-10.

Underdog is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 meetings.

SBA Take: After seeing the way the Redskins disposed of the Saints last week we have no choice but to pick them in this game. The Rams should put up a fight early but give way to a more talented team later.
