Jets vs Steelers Free Pick Week 2

The 2012 NFL season enters its second week and a marquee matchup has the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the New York Jets.

The Steelers are 0-1 SU this season and 0-1 ATS. Pittsburgh lost a tough opening game on Monday night against the Denver Broncos. Peyton Manning returned successfully from his neck surgeries to help defeat the Steelers 31-19. The score was deceiving as the Steelers were trailing by only six points late in the game when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Denver.

The Jets started their season 1-0 SU as well as ATS. The Jets behind the 266 yards passing and three touchdowns throws of quarterback Mark Sanchez defeated the Buffalo Bills handily 48-28. The Jets scored more points than any other team in the league in game one. At one time in the game, the Jets led the Bills by 34 points in the second half.

The teams have met four times since the 2005 season. Two games went to overtime to determine a winner and all the four games averaged a point differential between the teams of only four points.

On offense, the Steelers might struggle, as Rashard Mendenhall is banged up and might not be as effective at running back as he normally is. The offensive line is already shorthanded with David DeCastro out until November and two other starters injuring themselves in last week’s game. For the Jets, their secondary will be without star Darrelle Revis who suffered a concussion in week one and has been declared inactive for the game.

Over the past ten head-to-head games between the Steelers and Jets, Pittsburg is 6-4 ATS and 7-3 AU. Playing at home in their last six matchups against the Jets, the Steelers are 4-2 ATS and 5-1 SU. Over their last 8 games following a SU loss, the Steelers are 8-0 ATS.

The line currently has the Steelers as the favorite by 5 ½ points with the total for over under sitting at 42. A solid bet is New York plus the points or the OVER on the total.
