Bengals vs Ravens Free Pick September 10 2012

The NFL’ first full weekend of games is over and now just two Monday night games are left to end the league’s first week of action. One intriguing matchup tonight has the Cincinnati Bengals on the road facing the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens are one of the most consistent teams in the NFL. Baltimore is the only team in the league to reach the postseason in each of the past four seasons. However, even though they have been consistent, the team has not reached the Super Bowl in any of their past four playoff appearances. They lost last season in the AFC Championship to the New England Patriots. The last Super Bowl win for Baltimore was in 2000.

Returning to lead the offense this season are the duo of quarterback Joe Flacco and running back Ray Rice. Flacco had over 3,600 yards passing last season with 20 touchdowns. However, his completion rate of 57% was the lowest in his five-year career. Rice on the other hand, enjoyed his best season rushing with 1,364 yards. The speedy back also caught passes totaling 700 yards out of the backfield.

Ray Lewis the veteran of 17 NFL seasons leads the defense for the Ravens. He plays alongside Ed Reed who will be playing in his 11th season. The defense has been dominant for the Ravens over the years, but is getting old and their window of opportunity is quickly closing. The NFL’s current defensive player of the year, Terrell Suggs will not play for Baltimore until at least November as he is recovering from an Achilles tear he suffered during the spring.

Cincinnati will look to add to their 9-7 season last year. If they can have another winning season this year, it will be the first time the Bengals have enjoyed back-to-back seasons over .500 in 30 years. Andy Dalton is the starter at quarterback for the Bengals. Dalton passed for 3,400 yards last season and had 20 touchdowns. A.J. Green is Dalton’s favorite target and he caught passes totaling 1,057 yards a season ago. The running game for the Bengals has a new leader in BenJarvus Green-Ellis. He was picked up from the Patriots where he ran for 668 yards a season ago and over one thousand yards during the 2010 season.

The line has Baltimore as the favorite by 7 with the total at 41.5. Take Baltimore to win SU and ATS with the total making winners of the OVER bettors.
