Nebraska vs UCLA Free Pick September 8 2012

September 08, 2012

College football fans have a huge lineup of games this weekend, but one game that will spark a great deal of interest will take place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The UCLA Bruins will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers in an early season matchups of two very talented teams.

The Cornhuskers come into the game ranked no. 16 in the country after soundly defeated first week opponent Southern Mississippi last weekend 49-20. UCLA, even though not ranked in the top 25, easily took care of its opening day opponent Rice by the score of 49-24.

These two teams have not played head to head since 1994. Nebraska has dominated the matchup, as they are 6-1 SU in the past seven games between the two teams. Nebraska has a record of only 4-9 ATS in its last 13 games that follow a victory. The Cornhuskers are also a dismal 1-4-1 ATS when playing on natural grass in their past six games on that surface. UCLA is 1-8 ATS over its past nine games that follow a Bruin win. The Bruins are also just 1-6 ATS in games that follow a game they covered.

The Cornhuskers played well last week in defeating Southern Miss. Offensively Nebraska gained 632 yards, while its defense only gave up 260. The starting quarterback for Nebraska, Taylor Martinez had a career day with 353 yards through the air and five tosses for touchdowns.

The Bruins also took apart the defense of the Rice Owls by gaining 646 yards on offense, including 303 yards rushing. Running back Johnathan Franklin led the Bruins rushing attack with 214 on 15 carries. Franklin also rushed for three touchdowns.

Nebraska is the favorite to win tonight’s contest. The line has the Cornhuskers favored by 5 ½ after opening at 5 points and dipping to 4 ½. The total for the games over/under is 62. Take Nebraska less the points in this matchup, with the total making winners of those who take the OVER.
