Utah vs Utah State Free Pick September 7 2012

The NCAA football regular season sees an in-state rivalry take place Friday night when the Utah Utes invade Romney Stadium to take on the Utah State Aggies. Both teams played last weekend to open their respective seasons and both were victories. Tonight’s game will leave one team 1-1 while the other will go home 2-0 and hold the bragging rights for the state of Utah for the year.

The Utah Utes, members of the Pac-12, are back in winning form under second year coach Kyle Whittingham. Last season he led the Utes to an 8-5 record. Last week, the team started its 2012 campaign with a 41-0 drubbing of Northern Colorado. However, playing Utah State will not be as easy as their opening game last weekend at home against Northern Colorado.

The Utes are led on offense by Jordan Wynn at quarterback and John White in the backfield. Wynn tossed two touchdown passes against Northern Colorado, while White accumulated 119 yards on the ground. The Utes have two new tackles protecting Wynn when he drops back to pass and that could be a problem if Utah State is able to put pressure on the quarterback.

Utah State is led by its coach Gary Anderson who has succeeded in returning the football program to respectability. The Aggies were victorious in their season opener against Southern Utah by the score of 34-3. In the game, the Aggies quarterback Chuckie Keeton threw for 304 yards on the night and two touchdowns. He was helped offensively by Joe Hill who racked up 116 rushing yards on the night. Keeton is a double threat in the backfield for the Aggies, as he can run as effectively as he can pass.

The odds makers currently have tonight’s line with Utah as the favorite by 7 ½. The total for the over/under line is 52 ½ points. Smart money bettors are taking the Utes less the points to roll over the Aggies of Utah State, with the total cashing out to those bettors who took the OVER.
