Angels vs A’s Free Pick September 4 2012

The race out west is on. The Los Angeles Angels are trying to claw their way back into the race for one of the two wildcard spots or even a chance of a division title in the AL West. Tonight the Angles play away against the Oakland Athletics in the second game of a three game set.

On Monday night, the Angels defeated the A’s 8-3 to snap a nine game winning streak by the A’s. Los Angeles is currently in third place in the race for the AL West title, 8 ½ game behind first place Texas and 3 ½ games behind the second place A’s. In the race for one of the two wildcard spots, the Angels are three games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the second wildcard spot.

The Oakland A’s have had an incredible last two months with their offense carrying much of the load. In the last six games prior to their Monday night loss, the A’s offense had averaged 10 runs per game, while knocking the ball out of the park on 16 occasions.

In tonight’s matchup, the A’s will send Jarrod Parker to the mound against the Angels. Parker is 9-7 on the season with an ERA of 3.72. Over his last three starts, the A’s are 3-0, while giving him 20 runs of run support, but prior to those three starts, he lost three consecutive, while receiving only one run of support in each of the three games.

The Angels are starting to see good results from Zack Greinke who they picked up during the season to strengthen their pitching staff. Greinke is now 3-2 with the Angels and has a 4.82 ERA. In his last two outings, he has only allowed three runs in 14 2/3 innings of work in winning both games.

The current line for the game has the Angels as the favorite -125 to the A’s +115. The run total is sitting on 7.5. Smart money bettors are taking the Angels 2 to 1 to win, while over 90% are taking the OVER on the run total.
