NFC East 2012 Betting Odds

September 03, 2012

The NFL season starts in just two days with the first game on Wednesday between NFC East arch rivals the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. Last season the winner of the Super Bowl was from the NFC East and this year the division is expected to be one of the strongest in the NFL. The division should have three teams – New York, Dallas and the Philadelphia Eagles – vying for the division title.

The division’s best team will be the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite the fact Philly only had a record of 8-8 last season, their point differential was a +68, while the Super Bowl champion Giants had a negative point differential. During the season, Philly lost five games by seven or fewer points, with three of those losses playing without the services of Michael Vick who was injured. Within the division, the Eagles were 5-1 and won all three of their road games in the division. If Vick stays healthy, the team wins the division.

For those who like the OVER on the win totals, take the Redskins. The Redskins over/under win total is set at 6.5 and should be a solid OVER bet. The other teams in the division have inflated win totals and are not as solid a bet as Philly.

For those looking for the UNDER on season win totals for the NFC East the best bet is Dallas. The Cowboys will have an over value ticket stuck on them all season long. Already the team is fighting an injury problem with all-pro tight end Jason Witten along with question marks in the offensive backfield.

The best team to take ATS in the division is the New York Giants. The Giants will win a number of games SU this season, but will also be the best ATS. They play their best against tough opponents and were the only team last season that finished with a winning record ATS.

In individual games, the Giants will be the best OVER pick, as their defense is not as good as it is given credit for. Only four teams in the entire league gave up more points than the Giants did last season. The best UNDER bet will be the Redskins. One two teams in the NFC last season scored fewer points than the Redskins and with Robert Griffin III learning the NFL game, the team might even score less.
