Stanford vs San Jose State Free Pick August 31 2012

August 31, 2012

The NCAA Football season is upon us and a number of exciting games are on tap for this weekend. One such game has the Stanford Cardinal visiting the San Jose State Spartans Friday night. This will be the first game for Stanford since all world quarterback Andrew Luck was drafted and moved on to bigger and better things in the NFL. Josh Nunes will make his collegiate debut for Stanford at QB. Nunes was injured the entire season last year.

The Cardinal will rely a great deal tonight as in every game this season on Stepfan Taylor their running back who has a chance to be an All-American. Defensively Stanford has their best linebacker Shayne Skov suspended for a game for a driving infraction during the offseason. Nevertheless, the front seven for Sanford can more than handle the offensive line for the Spartans.

The Spartans have David Fales at quarterback who transferred from Monterey Peninsula College where he threw for over 4,600 yards and had 37 touchdowns in two seasons. However, his offensive line is suspect and the Stanford defense could give him fits all night. He will look to throw screens and passes to the flat to keep the defense off balance and out of his backfield.

If the game is determined by a field goal, fans from Stanford hope it is the Spartans kicker and not their own Jordan Williamson doing the kicking. Williamson missed a potential game winning field goal at the end of regulation against Oklahoma State last season in the Fiesta Bowl.

On paper, the two teams do not match up in any category, with possibly the exception of kicking. However, football is not played on paper, but on a field and tonight’s game might surprise many fans.

The current line has the Stanford Cardinal as a 24-point favorite on the road, with the point total at 50½. Smart money takes San Jose plus the points to cover and the total to cash out to the OVER.
