College Football Preview: #2 LSU Tigers

We’re down to the final two ion our preview of College Football Live’s pre-season Top 25 Countdown. So there two final teams are the ones the experts on the show feel will be in the BCS National Championship Game at the end of the season right? Well, not the ones who appeared on College Game Day earlier today. None of them between Desmond Howard, Lee Corso or Kirk Herbrstreit picked LSU. All three picked Florida State. Herbie and Dez are both on CFL’s panel that went through this list along with several others.

LSU is loaded again, but this list was compiled before they lost the Honey Badger. Anyone who watched LSU a year ago knows what a monstrous loss this is. He was the best player on the field in every game the Tigers played. He turned the momentum towards LSU in several games including West Virginia and the SEC Championship Game against Georgia.

The Tigers have plenty of talent coming back though in RB Spencer Ware, RB Michael Ford, RB Kenny Hilliard, WR Russell Shepard, WR Odell Beckham, LT Chris Faulk, RT Alex Hurst, DE Sam Montgomery, DE Barkevious Mingo, DT Bennie Logan, DT Michael Brockers, LB Kevin Minter, CB Tharold Simon, S Eric Reid, K Drew Alleman and P Brad Wing. Plus, the Bayou Bengals have a new quarterback that most college football folks are very high on in Zach Mettenberger. Mettenberger has a big time arm and the Tigers, behind that dominant offensive line and speed at the WR position in Shepard and Beckham will be able to go deep often.

The schedule is in the Tigers favor somewhat this year getting Alabama at home, although they do travel to Auburn, Florida and Arkansas. Those are three tough road games, but having Bama at home is huge since many feel that will be like last year, a game to decide the SEC West. Washington comes in to Tiger Stadium in week two. That will be LSU’s only test in non-conference play. In October, the Tigers have a tough three-game stretch when they travel to Florida on the 6th, host South Carolina on the 13th and visit Texas A&M on the 20th. They get an open date before Bama comes to visit the first weekend in November. Should they get through all of that, they have Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Arkansas to close out the regular season.

We feel LSU should win at least 10 games in the regular season. So if you can find an over/under at 9.5 feel free to bet over. LSU could very well go 11-1 or even 12-0. They have several possible losses, including Auburn, Florida, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Alabama and Arkansas. However, we do not see them losing more than two of them. Which two? That’s a good question. brought to you by BetRevolution
