Yankees vs White Sox Free Pick August 22 2012

August 22, 2012

The American League East is quickly tightening up, as the New York Yankees have not played as well over the last two weeks and their lead is currently down to just four games. Tonight the Yankees face the Chicago White Sox in the third and final game of a three game series in Chicago. The White Sox have won the first two games of the series, including a 7-3 win on Tuesday night.

In the win, Kevin Youkilis, the veteran who was acquired in June from the Boston Red Sox, hit a grand slam to power the offense. Francisco Liriano, who was also recently acquired by the White Sox, struck out seven Yankees in six innings to get the victory. With a win in the final game of the series tonight, the White Sox can sweep New York at home for just the first time in the last 21 years.

New York is 5-5 in its last 10 contests and 72-51 overall. They lead Tampa Bay by four games and Baltimore by five. Tonight they will send right hander Phil Hughes to pitch against Chicago. Hughes has a record this season of 12-10 with a 4.23 ERA. His career record versus the White Sox is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA. He defeated the Sox on July 1 by the score of 4-2, by giving up just two runs over eight innings.

The White Sox will send one of their aces to the mound tonight. Chris Sale, who is 14-4 on the year with an ERA of 2.72, will face the Yankees. The southpaw is enjoying an excellent season this year as a starter. Prior to this year, he was a reliever for the Sox. He will be trying to win his seventh straight decision in Chicago in tonight’s matchup.

The current line has Chicago, as the favorite at home -135 to New York’s +125. The run total is at 8.5. Take New York to win in an upset, with the run total making winners of those who take the OVER.
