Nationals vs Giants Free Pick August 13 2012

August 13, 2012

The best team in the National League West hosts the best team in baseball as the San Francisco Giants take on the Washington Nationals at home in San Francisco. Washington owns the best record in the major leagues at 71-44. The Nationals have won 8 out of their last ten games. They now have a four and a half game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. Some fans believe this series could end up being the National League Championship in early October.

San Francisco is 7-3 over its last ten games to raise its season record to 63-52 giving them a one game lead over rival the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants have enjoyed an offensive explosion of sorts in their last two games. On Saturday, the club had 14 hits when they defeated the Colorado Rockies 9-3 and on Sunday they pounded out 14 hits to defeat the Rockies again 9-6. Pablo Sandoval should give the Giants a boost has he will play tonight after being on the disabled list

The Giants will have Ryan Vogelsong on the mound to start tonight against the Nationals. Vogelsong has a record this season of 10-5 with a 2.25 ERA. He has not allowed more than three runs in all but one of his last 18 starts. Last Wednesday he defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 15-0 by giving up just three hits in his seven innings of work.

Gio Gonzalez will start tonight’s game on the mound for the Nationals. Gonzalez leads the Nationals in wins this season with 14 and has a 14-6 overall record. His ERA is 3.32. His last outing was a win over Houston, where he threw a complete game.

The odds makers have the current line with San Francisco slightly favored at -110 and the Nationals at +100. The run total is low at just 6.5. Smart money is behind the visiting Nationals to win game one of this series, with the total cashing out to the bettor who take the UNDER.
