Tigers vs Rangers Free Pick August 10 2012

A rematch of the American League Championship Series starts tonight in Texas, when the Texas Rangers host the Detroit Tigers. Last season the Rangers defeated the Tigers in six games to win the pennant. During the regular season this year, the Rangers are 5-2 versus the Tigers.

Texas comes into the game with a record for the season of 65-45, which is the best in the AL and second best in baseball behind just the Washington Nationals. Detroit is 6-2 over their last eight games, but has dropped two straight. Their record is now 60-52 on the season and they are just one game behind the Chicago White Sox for first in the AL Central.

The Rangers will be playing for the next 20 straight days without a day of rest. However, 13 of those 20 games will be played at home and they have the best record in the AL at home at 34-21. Scott Feldman gets the nod for the Rangers tonight against the Tigers. Feldman has raised his season record to 6-6, after starting the season at 0-6. He has won three straight starts and six consecutive appearances. One of those appearances was a win in relief. His season ERA is now 4.52.

Detroit has not played well lately on the road and is starting a road trip after their two straight losses to the New York Yankees at home, including Thursday night’s 4-3 loss where they blew a lead late to lose. Tonight the Tigers will send Max Scherzer to the mound. Scherzer has a record of 10-6 this season with a 4.72 ERA. He last faced the Rangers in the ALCS and lost the sixth and deciding game 15-5 giving up six runs in just 2 1/3 innings.

Currently odds makers have the Rangers as the favorite -135 to the Tigers +125. The total is sitting at 10.5. Smart money takes Texas to win, with the total cashing out to those who take the OVER.
