Tonight’s major league matchup at Camden Yards is between two teams headed in opposite directions. The Baltimore Orioles meet the Seattle Mariners in the third and last game of a three game set. Baltimore has a season record of 59-51, has won four consecutive games and is 7-3 over their last 10. Seattle on the other hand, is ten games under .500 with a record of 51-61, has lost three straight and is dead last place in the American League West. Last night the Orioles defeated the Mariners in 14 innings to win their 12th consecutive extra inning game.
Baltimore has played their way back into playoff contention and trails the American League East leading New York Yankees by just 4 ½ games. The Orioles are also in the mix for one of the two wildcard spots. If Baltimore continues to play well, they could qualify for the postseason for the first time since 1997.
In the game tonight, the Orioles will have Tommy Hunter starting against the Mariners. Hunter has a season record of 4-7 with a 5.55 ERA. He is 0-3 in his past three starts, but has been given very little run support by his teammates. Last Friday, Hunter pitched will against Tampa Bay, but still took the loss 2-0.
The Mariners will send Kevin Millwood to pitch against the Orioles. Millwood will try to prevent the Orioles from sweeping the series. Millwood has a record this season of 4-9 with a 4.01 ERA. However, over his last 12 starts, the right hander has only won once. He played for the Orioles in 2010 and posted a record of 4-16. This will be his first start against Baltimore since 2009, but in 13 career starts against Baltimore, the veteran is 9-3.
The line on the game currently has the Orioles as the favorite -130 to the Mariners +110. The run total is at 9.5. Take the Orioles to win and sweep the Mariners. The total will make winners of those who take the OVER.
