Braves vs Red Sox Free Pick June 22 2012

June 22, 2012

Interleague play continues this weekend and the Atlanta Braves visit Fenway Park to take on the Boston Red Sox in the first game of a four-game series tonight. The Red Sox are starting to turn things around, as they are three games over .500 at 36-33 and have won five games straight heading into this series with the Braves.

Helping to turn things around for the Sox has been their designated hitter David Ortiz. He has hit.375 with four home runs and 11 runs batted in over the last 8 games. Boston has won seven of those eight after losing 7 of 8 prior.

Jon Lester will take the mound for the Sox in tonight’s matchup. The southpaw is 4-4 on the season with an ERA of 4.53. He is coming off just his first win in his last five starts with a win over the Cubs last Saturday where he gave up just three runs while pitching 6 2/3 innings.

The Braves are 37-32 on the season and will send Jair Jurrjens to the mound. Jurrjens is 0-2 on the season with an ERA of 9.37. He has not pitched since April 23, as he was sent to Triple-A after four poor starts. He is replacing Brandon Beachy in the rotation, as Beachy was lost for the rest of the season due to undergoing Tommy John surgery. In interleague starts, Jurrjens is 3-1 lifetime with an ERA of 1.34. His only interleague loss was to the Red Sox 4-1 in June of 2009.

The current line for the game has the Red Sox as the favorite at home -175 with the Brave at +155. The run total in this one is at 10.5. Jon Lester will keep the Braves’ bats in check and the Red Sox offense will run all over Jurrjens. Take the Red Sox in this game. The total will pay out to the OVER.
