Giants vs Angels Free Pick June 18, 2012

The Los Angeles Angels host the San Francisco Giants for a three game interleague series, with game one tonight in Los Angeles. The Angels are currently 36-31 this season after winning two games over the weekend against the Arizona Diamondbacks by identical 2-0 scores. The Angels however, have not plated many runs over their last six games. Los Angeles has only managed to score 11 runs during that stretch.

Tonight Los Angeles will give the ball to Jerome Williams. Williams has a season record of 6-4 with a 4.20 ERA. Williams pitched well in his last start, through the first seven innings. In that game, he allowed only a run in the first seven innings, but gave up another four in just the eighth inning. Williams has given up 12 runs in his last two contests.

The Giants have a season record of 37-30, but lost two of three against Seattle this past weekend and have lost three of their last four games since Matt Cain threw a perfect game for them last Wednesday. Tonight Cain returns for the Giants. Cain has a record this season of 8-2 with a 2.18 ERA. The right-hander has pitched exceptionally well of late and struck out 14 in his perfect game last week.

Albert Pujols has fared well against Cain over his career. The slugger has 8 hits in 14 official at bats versus Cain including smacking 2 round trippers, one double and 4 walks. In Sunday’s 2-0 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Pujols hit a solo home run.

The Angles have won the last four straight games between the two teams including a sweep of a three game set in June 2009, the last time the two teams played in an interleague matchup. The current line has San Francisco as the favorite -125, with Los Angeles at +115. The total is sitting at 7. Take the Giants to win this matchup with the total paying out to the bettor who takes the UNDER.
