June 15, 2012

The Baltimore Orioles face the Atlanta Braves tonight at Turner Filed in Atlanta. The Orioles have had a fine start to the season, have a record of 37-26 and are battling for first place in the American League East. The Braves are 34-29 on the season and have fallen behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East by five games.

The Braves will send Tommy Hanson to the mound against the Orioles. Hanson has a season record of 7-4 with an ERA of 3.55. The Braves have lost four consecutive games at home. Hanson has won two consecutive starts while recording 10 strikeouts and only one walk.

The Orioles trail the Yankees by just a half game in the American League East and are coming off a sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three-game series. Baltimore will start Brian Matusz on the mound tonight. Matusz has a record of 5-6 with an ERA of 4.82. He missed his regular start in the rotation on Wednesday after being hit in the nose while practicing bunting on Tuesday. The southpaw gave up five walks and five runs in his last outing against Boston that resulted in a 7-0 defeat.

Baltimore has won five consecutive games overall and will try to extend their interleague streak to six straight as well tonight. Atlanta however, has played well at home against the Orioles. The Braves are 11-4 over the last 15 games at Turner Field versus the Orioles. The Braves are coming off a series where they were swept at home against the New York Yankees.

The current line has the Braves as the favorite at -170, with the Orioles sitting at +150. The run total is at 8.5. The Orioles will extend the losing streak of the Braves tonight behind Matusz on the mound. Take the Orioles to win and the run total to cash out to those bettors who take the OVER.
