Spurs vs Thunder Free Pick May 31, 2012

The Oklahoma City Thunder has their backs squarely against the wall and must play tonight’s third game of their conference finals as if it was game seven. The Thunder lost games one and two against the San Antonio Spurs. History is against the Thunder if they loss a third straight to the Spurs. No team in the history of the NBA has been able to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best of seven series. The Thunder does not want to be the first.

Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant will be the key players for the Thunder in tonight’s contest. The two players average well over 20 points per game and must continue their offensive output, but in a more efficient manner. More points from fewer shots. James Harden has hit key shots for the Thunder, but has not carried the load as he did against the Lakers in the last series.

San Antonio will look to their three veterans Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili for their offensive output. Parker also needs to try to neutralize Westbrook, while Duncan will look to clog up the middle to make the Thunder score from long range.

The Thunder is 5-0 SU thus far during the playoffs and 2-3 ATS over the same five games. OKC is 11-3 SU over their last 14 playoffs games at Chesapeake Energy Arena. The Spurs have won 20 consecutive games and during that stretch have amassed a record of 17-3 ATS. That record is remarkable since in a number of those games the Spurs were favored by 10 or more points.

The line for tonight’s game opened with the Thunder as a 3-point favorite, but has increased to 3 ½ points. The total opened at 206 and has remained there. The Thunder will win this game to narrow the series to 2-1 and end the Spurs streak at 20. The total will cash out to those who take the OVER.
