Celtics vs 76ers Free Pick May 23, 2012

The Boston Celtics will look to eliminate the Philadelphia 76ers in the sixth game of their best of seven eastern conference semifinals on Wednesday night in Philly. The Celtics lead the series 3-2 after defeating the 76ers 101-85 on Monday night in Boston. The Celtics have relied on three veterans this season and Rajon Rondo. The veterans Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen have carried the team behind the playmaking of Rondo. In Monday night’s win against Philly, the hero however was Brandon Bass.

Bass is a member of the starting lineup for the Celtics, but is unheralded and does not get the marquee billing his fellow starters do. Nevertheless, he scored 27 points, a career playoff high, to lead the Celtics in scoring. He scored 18 of those 27 in a decisive third quarter when the Celtics pulled away for the win. His 18 in the third quarter were more than the 76ers team scored in the same quarter.

Garnett added 20 points for the Celtics while Rondo chipped in with 13 points and a game high 14 assists. Elton Brand led the 76ers in scoring with 19 and Evan Turner had 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The 76ers must stop making turnovers if they expect to win not only the sixth game, but also the series. They also must get more consistency from Jrue Holiday and Andre Iguolala. Both Brand and Spencer Hawes are playing well down low, but they need more help on the boards from smaller forwards are guards.

In the decisive third quarter, Rondo had seven of his 14 assists for Boston. The line currently has the 76ers as a 1 ½ point favorite after opening with them as a 2-point favorite. The total is resting at 174 ½. Take the 76ers in this game on their home court to win SU and ATS to send the series back to Boston for game seven. The total will payout out to the OVER.
