Celtics vs Hawks Free Pick May 8, 2012

May 07, 2012

The Boston Celtics lost game one of their best of seven series against the Atlanta Hawks, but have won the last three games. Sunday night they defeated the Hawks 101-79 to take a commanding 3-1 lead. The Celtics will play game five in the series May 8 in Atlanta.

Boston was led by the exceptional play of point guard Rajon Rondo. Rondo scored 20 points but more impressively, he dished out 16 assists in the win. Since missing game two due to a suspension, Rondo has come back with last night’s performance and a triple double performance in game three. Josh Smith returned for the Hawks in game four after missing game three with an injury. Smith led the Hawks with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Veteran guard Paul Pierce for the Celtics scored 24 points to lead the team in that category.

The Celtics opened a lead early in game four and early in the third quarter they led by 37 points and most of their starters were already sitting on the bench resting. The Celtics are a battered group as Pierce has a sore knee and veteran guard Ray Allen a sore ankle.

Boston would like to end the series against Atlanta so they can get some much needed rest between series. The veteran Celtics, which includes Kevin Garnett, who just surpassed 50,000 career minutes over his 17 year career, are fighting age and injury in the early part of this season’s playoffs.

The Hawks got good news as Al Horford their starting center played in game four for the first time in over four months. Horford sustained a torn pectoral muscle that has kept him out of the lineup since early January. The current line has the Hawks as a one-point favorite at home. The total is at 172. Take the Hawks in this game to extend the series for at least one more game. The total will end OVER.
