Grizzlies vs Clippers Free Pick May 7, 2012

The Los Angeles Clippers put together a complete team effort to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 87-86 Saturday to take a 2-1 lead in the series. The teams play the fourth game of the series Monday night in Los Angeles with the Clippers looking to take a commanding 3-1 lead.

The Clippers shot 47% from the field on the night and were an impressive 8 for 17 from beyond the three-point line. However, they only made 13 of their 30 free throw attempts on the night. That was the worst a team has shot from the free throw line in NBA playoff history.

Chris Paul led the Clippers with 24 points, 11 assists, four rebounds and four steals. The All Star guard has proven his value in just the first three games of the series, as he has been instrumental in the team’s two victories. Memphis was led by Rudy Gay who scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, even though he sat out much of the first quarter and part of the second with early foul trouble.

The win in game three for Los Angeles was their first game three win since 1992 and the first time they have won a game 3 in a best of seven series since they defeated the Boston Celtics in 1976 when they were the Buffalo Braves.

Caron Butler who started the game after broking his left hand in game one helped the Clippers. He was expected to sit out six weeks, but wore a splint. He managed to score four points. The Clippers were helped by an 18-1 run at the end of the first and into the second quarter. The run gave the Clippers a comfortable 36-23 lead.

The line has opened with the Clippers as 2 ½-point favorites at home with the total at 182 ½. Smart money takes the Grizzlies plus the points to tie the series and give them home court advantage once again.
