Cardinals vs Cubs Free Pick April 23, 2012

April 23, 2012

Two teams meet on Monday to open a three game series with each team headed in opposite directions. The St. Louis Cardinals travel to Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs. The Cardinals are 11-5 on the season and flying high, while the Cubs are just 4-12 and falling further and further behind.

The Cardinals have enjoyed great pitching from its starters and that could come in handy as they have two batters with power who are out of the lineup. On Monday, the Cardinals will be looking to take their third straight from the Cubs. The Cardinals have one of the better records in the NL and have a starting rotation with an ERA of 2.75.

Over the weekend, the Cardinals won two of their three games against Pittsburgh. Sunday they won 5-1 after losing a pitching duel 2-0 on Saturday. The Cardinals have already taken two of three against the Cubs and lead the NL in batting with a team average of .281. The Cardinals have won every series thus far this season, while the Cubs have yet to win one. Over the weekend, the Cubs lost two of their three home games against Cincinnati.

The Cubs do not have much to be proud of thus far in the season, but one bright spot is Starlin Castro their shortstop. He currently has a 10-game hitting streak and on Sunday, he had a triple as one of his two hits.

Jaime Garcia 2-0 with an ERA of 3.06 will go for the Cardinals. He had the best outing thus far in the season, Wednesday against Cincinnati. He gave up just one run in an 11-1 win. Against the Cubs last season, Garcia was 2-0 with an ERA of 2.11 in three starts.

The total in this game is 7 with the Cardinals favored -115 to the Cubs +105. I like the Cardinals behind the hot pitching of Garcia to take this game with the total ending UNDER.
