Mets vs Braves, April 16, 2012

April 16, 2012

Monday night will see the New York Mets visit the Atlanta Braves to open a series at Turner Field. The Mets have started out strong this season and are 6-3. David Wright has played well for them early in the year but has had his problems at Turner Field.

To start the season, Wright is hitting a hefty .571 with 2 home runs and he has knocked in five runs.  Wright missed three games last week due to a broken finger. However, he has had five hits in nine at bats in the two games since his return. The Mets lost to Philadelphia on Sunday and it was the first loss the Mets have had with Wright in the lineup.

The Braves are 5-4 on the season and will be looking to win their sixth consecutive game on Monday. Starting for the Braves will be Tommy Hanson. The Mets beat Hanson on opening day when Wright knocked in a run with a sixth-inning single. However, Hanson has dominated against Wright for his career. Wright has a career average of just .150 against Hanson, including eight K’s.

Eighteen-year veteran Chipper Jones announced prior to the season that this would be his last. In the three games he has played, the Braves are undefeated and his average in those three games is .417. He missed the team’s first four games due to knee surgery he was still recovering from.

Against the Mets, Jones hit .302 last season, in 16 games. However, lifetime against the Mets’ scheduled starter Dillon Gee he is just 1 for 8. Lee is 0-1 on the season and allowed 8 hits and four runs in just 5 1/3 innings against Washington in a 6-2 loss in New York. Gee was the Mets’ leader in wins last season with 13.

The over is at 7.5 for this matchup with the Braves as the favorite. Take the Braves with the total UNDER.
