Angels vs Yankees April 15, 2012

April 15, 2012

The baseball season is young, but an earlier season matchup has two teams that may be vying for the American League championship in October. The Los Angeles Angels visit the New York Yankees Sunday night April 15. The Yankees are 4-4 on the season and will have Ivan Nova on the mound. Nova has won 13 consecutive decisions dating back to last season and will try to be the first Yankee in over 50 years to win 14 straight. Last season Nova lead all rookies in the league with 16 wins.

In his debut this season, Nova had seven strikeouts in a 6-2 victory over Baltimore. He struck out seven Orioles in the game. Prior to their loss last night to the Angels, the Yankees had won four straight games.

The Angels are 3-5 on the season and had lost three consecutive games prior to their win Saturday night against the Yankees. The Angles made one of the biggest free agent pickups in many years last winter when they signed Albert Pujols. Pujols has had multiple hit games this season already but has still not hit a round tripper. If Pujols goes the game without a home run, it will be the first time in his career he has gone the first nine games of the season without hitting one.

Jerome Williams will go for the Angels on the mound. Last year he was 4-0 in six starts with an ERA of 3.68. He will be the Angels fifth starter in the rotation.

Alex Rodriquez is still tied with Ken Griffey Jr. in career home runs with 631. He was hitless on Saturday. The Yankees should take the final game of this three game series with Nova having his second consecutive good outing. The total is at 10. Look for the game to have lots of offensive and the total to end OVER.
