Battle Out West Heats Up

April 06, 2012

The battle out west is heating up to a frenzy as the Western Conference fight for playoff position. The Los Angeles Lakers will play the Phoenix Suns April 7 at Phoenix, in a key matchup for both teams. The Lakers are currently leading the Pacific division by two games over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Lakers are winners of four straight and 7 of 10. LA’s overall record of 35-20 has them in third place in the playoff race behind super hot San Antonio and conference leader the Oklahoma City Thunder. Los Angeles is 12-15 on the road and 26-11 against conference opponents

Phoenix is fighting for their playoff life. The Suns are 28-26 overall. The team has won three straight and 6 of their last 10. However, they find themselves on the outside looking in. The Suns are one game behind the eighth place Denver Nuggets. At home this season, the Suns are 16-11 and 18-18 in the conference. Grant Hill for Phoenix is the only player out with an injury.

The Lakers have dominated the head to head matchup 7-3 SU over the last 10 meetings against the Suns. The total has been OVER in 6 of those team games. The teams have meet on three occasions this season with Los Angeles winning 2 and Phoenix one. The total has been OVER twice in those three games.

Los Angles is 4-0 SU in their last four games including a 113-108 win over division and conference rival the Los Angeles Clippers. In that game, the Lakers covered a 3-point spread as the favorites and the total of 221 easily paid out to OVER bettors.

Phoenix is 3-1 SU in their last four games and that includes a win over the Clippers in which the Suns covered a 7-point underdog spread and the total of 189 point out to UNDER bettors. Take the Lakers in this, less the points, as they battle to keep first place in the Pacific division, with the total cashing out to UNDER bettors.
