Knicks Try To Move Up In Playoff Race

April 04, 2012

The New York Knicks continue their trek towards the NBA playoffs when they head south to take on the Orlando Magic in the Amway Center April 5. The Knicks are 27-27 on the season and are 7-3 SU over their last 10 games. The good play by the Knicks of late has them back in the playoff hunt. They are currently in the eighth and final spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race 1 ½ games in front of ninth place Milwaukee and only 2 ½ games behind seventh place Philadelphia.

Orlando has an overall record of 32-22 and is in fifth place in the playoff hunt in the East. Their loss on Monday night knocked them from third place in the East to their current fifth spot. They now trail third place Indiana by a half game.

Both teams come into the game with key players nursing injuries. The Knicks have both Jeremy Lin and Amare Stoudemire out indefinitely. The Magic have three players day to day. Ryan Anderson has a sore ankle, Jameer Nelson a sore calf and most importantly, Dwight Howard has a sore back.

Orlando is 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in the last 10 head to head matchups with the Knicks. The total is nearly always OVER in this matchup. Nine of the past 10 games the total has been OVER. The two teams are averaging 212 points between them when they face off. This season there have been two meetings between the two teams. Both teams have won one game each with the total OVER in both games.

Key in this game will be Dwight Howard. Howard leads the Magic in scoring, rebounding and block shots. If he cannot go because of his bad back, then the Knicks have a much better opportunity of upsetting the Magic. Follow the line for updates on the status of Howard for this one. If Howard is healthy, take the Magic less the points in a high scoring OVER total.
