Kentucky vs. Kansas Free Pick

Kentucky vs. Kansas

Well the Final Four have been reduced to two. Sixty-eight teams entered March Madness with high hopes. All but two have gone home disappointed. Monday night April 2 at the Superdome in New Orleans, one team will go home as the National Champion and one will go home wondering what could have been.

The Kentucky Wildcats meet the Kansas Jayhawks to determine the 2011/12 National Collegiate Basketball Champion. Kentucky is the definite favorite, as they have the thoroughbreds needed to win the championship. Freshmen Anthony Davis was recently named the Player of the Year by the Associated Press.

It will be difficult for Kansas to matchup with all the Kentucky heavyweights who will be off to the NBA much sooner than later. The Kentucky defense is strong and will give the big Kansas front line fits on the inside. In Kentucky’s win over Louisville in the Final Four, they held the Cardinals to only 34% shooting overall and 36% from beyond the arc.

Kentucky was outrebounded in the game but much of that was due to an extra-effort by the Cardinals on the offensive boards. They did not shoot well from the charity strip and those two things cannot persist in the championship game if they want to beat Kansas.

Kansas will go once again to their heart and soul  Thomas Robinson. If Kentucky holds him in check, the title is theirs for the taking. If Robinson can have an extraordinary game and help get Davis in early foul trouble, the Jayhawks could steal the win.

Kansas must use the strength of their defense to win Monday. Jeff Withey played well against Jared Sullinger, but Davis is quicker, more agile and athletic than Sullinger. Kansas had 11 more boards than Ohio State and they must out rebound Kentucky if they hope to take the title home.

Currently the Wildcats are a 6-point favorite with the total sitting at 138. The Wildcats must keep Davis from getting into foul trouble and they need to control the boards. If they do those two things then their athleticism and talent will carry them to a National Championship.

Pick: Kentucky (-6) Total: UNDER
