Kentucky vs. Indiana Free Picks

March 23, 2012

Kentucky No.1 (34-2) vs. Indiana No. 4 (27-8)

This matchup is probably the most interesting and anticipated of the eight games in the Sweet 16. This gamewill pit the Kentucky Wildcats, winner of 34 of their 36 games this season against the Indiana Hoosiers who are 27-8. Back on December 10 of last year, the Hoosiers defeated the Wildcats in an epic battle 73-72. Christian Watford scored a desperation three-pointer as time ran out to lift the Hoosier over the Wildcats. It was Kentucky’s only loss until they fell to Vanderbilt in the SEC tournament two weeks ago.

Since then Kentucky is a different team. It will take everything the Hoosiers have short of divine intervention for them to defeat the Kentucky team of today. In their recent rout of Iowa State to get to the Sweet 16, Kentucky used a 20-2 run to sew up the victory.

The Kentucky team is loaded with future first-rounders in NBA drafts to come. However, the player who played his best game of the season was Marquis Teague the teams freshmen point guard. He finished with 24 points, a career high, making 10 of his 14 shots, seven assists and just two turnovers.

Indiana on the other hand, needed late game heroics from Will Sheehey who knocked down a 15-foot jump shot to beat no.12 seeded VCU. A key matchup in the game will be at guard. Teague is coming off his best game of the season but will be facing Jordan Hulls. Hulls is not the athlete Teague is but he has more experience.

Hulls is shooting 50% from the floor and only turns the ball over twice per game. If he can control the ball, take shots were available and keep Teague in check, then the Hoosiers may have hope for an upset. Indiana’s star player is freshmen Cody Zeller. He is fluid, athletic and can spread the floor better than most men can his size.

The line opened with Kentucky as an 8-point favorite but has increased to 9 points. The total is sitting at 146.5 points. The Wildcats will avenge their early season loss to the Hoosiers and book their ticket to the Elite 8 on Sunday.

Pick: Kentucky (-9) Total: UNDER
