Philly vs. Boston NBA Free Pick Wednesday

March 07, 2012

The Boston Celtics travel to play the Philadelphia 76ers March 7 at the Wells Fargo Center. This matchup used to be one of the biggest rivalries in the Eastern conference, but of late has not lived up to the past. Philadelphia is currently leading the Atlantic division with a 22-17 record. Boston is just a couple of games back with a regard of 19-17.

Boston is a veteran team led by guards Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and power forward Kevin Garnett. The Celtics have one of the league’s best defenses as they give up less than 90 points per game. Philadelphia is lead by a group of youngsters who also play great defense under the tutelage of coach Doug Collins. The 76ers are giving up just 87 points per game.

Both Boston and Philadelphia have big men out injured. The Celtics’ Jermaine O’Neal is sidelined with a sprained wrist and the 76ers leader in rebounds, Spencer Hawes is out with an Achilles problem.

Boston holds the advantage in head to head action between the two teams, as they are 8-2 SU over the last 10 games the two teams have played. The total has been UNDER 5 times in those same 10 games. The two have not met this season as of yet and this will be their first meeting since April of 2011.

Over the last four games, Boston is 4-0 SU including a Sunday night win at home against New York. The 76ers are 2-3 SU in their last five games. They are struggling of late. Monday night they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks 97-93 in Milwaukee.

With the two teams being two of the best defensively in the league, the game should be close and low scoring. Boston has played better of late and should win ATS. Sharp money will be placed on the total being UNDER.
