Marquette at West Virginia NCAA Basketball

West Va. -1

The Golden Eagles of Marquette visit the West Virginia Mountaineers on February 25 in an important BigEast matchup. The Golden Eagles are 23-5 overall and second in the Big East standings, while the Mountaineers are 17-11 overall and ninth in the conference. Marquette must keep up its winning ways in order to secure a good seeding in the upcoming Big East tournament.

Kevin Jones leads the Mountaineers on offense. The 6’8″ Jones is leading the team in both scoring and rebounding. He averages 20.3 points and 11.2 rebounds a game. Three players are averaging 3 or more assists per game to lead the team.

The Golden Eagles offense is generated from Darius Johnson-Odom (18.7 ppg) and Jae Crowder (17.1 ppg). Crowder is also leading the team in rebounds with a 7.7 per game average. Leading the way in assists for the Golden Eagles is playmaker Junior Cadougan who is averaging 5.6 per game in that department.

Marquette has played well on the road of late and is 4-1 SU over their last five road games. West Virginia has struggled of late, as they are 1-5 ATS in their last six games and 2-6 SU over their last eight games. Head to head the Marquette holds a 4-3 SU and 5-2 ATS record in the last seven games the two have played.

Marquette’s only loss in its last five games was to Notre Dame. Over that span, they have defeated Rutgers, Connecticut, DePaul and Cincinnati. West Virginia however is just 2-3 SU in the last five games they have played including losses twice to Notre Dame and once to Louisville.

Be watchful for the Mountaineers to try to take time off the clock and hold the ball on offense for as long as possible to give Marquette few opportunities at the offensive end. For this reason we like West Va. -1
